Janelle Monáe Joins Gloria Steinem Biopic ‘The Glorias: A Life On The Road’
Exclusive: Janelle Monáe has come aboard The Glorias: A Life on the Road, the Gloria Steinem biopic that has Julianne Moore and Alicia Vikander playing the feminist and social-political activist at various stages of her life. Julie Taymor is directing the film which is based on Steinem’s memoir.

This seems like a befitting project for Monáe who, like Steinem, is an outspoken human rights advocate. Earlier this year, the multiple Grammy nominee called for a Time’s Up in the music industry to end discrimination, inequality, harassment and the abuse of power.

The Glorias will follow Steinem’s journey to become a crusader for equal rights and her groundbreaking work as a journalist and campaigner.

Alex Saks is producing the pic, via Fifty-Four Pictures, with Taymor and Lynn Hendee. Steinem and Amy Richards are exec producers as filming is slated to start January in Savannah, Ga.

‘Green Book’ Rises; Same 6 Films Lead Box Office for Unprecedented Third Weekend

‘Green Book’ Rises; Same 6 Films Lead Box Office for Unprecedented Third Weekend
This was the worst-grossing weekend of 2018, not that it matters; this pre-Christmas weekend is usually among the lowest. All distributors avoided it for any new release, even throwaway titles. Historically, next week can be even worse (unless your film is “Star Wars” or similar). The priority now is to stake a claim that doesn’t risk seeing a film pulled for Christmas.

So, no new films, decreased gross — and at the same time, better holds for films currently on screen. That formula explains this week’s results. However, the same six films have led all others for three straight weeks and that’s unprecedented.

It also could have impact on weeks ahead. “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” “The Grinch,” and “Creed II” all grossed over $10 million in their third weekend (or later), in a slow period: That suggests they will play through the holiday. That would mean a major bonus for all three,

Anne Hathaway Offered a Role in Robert Zemeckis' New Adaptation of The Witches

Director Robert Zemeckis has been developing a new adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic 1973 book The Witches for Warner Bros. Variety is reporting that Anne Hathaway has been offered one of the lead roles for the film, but she has yet to take the job or not. The actress is also in talks to join the new Sesame Street movie.

I like Hathaway, and The Witches seems like it would be an awesome project for her to jump on board. The script for the film was co-written by Zemeckis, his partner, Jack Rapke, along with Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity) and Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water).

The story for The Witches follows a seven-year-old boy who has a run in with real-life witches. It’s said that Zemeckis’ version will be "more rooted in the original source material, while the Huston pic was a loose adaptation." Here's a description of

Oscars 2019: Best Visual Effects Predictions

Oscars 2019: Best Visual Effects Predictions
While 2018 has been a stunning year for character animation and world building, powered by “Ready Player One,” “Black Panther,” and “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” the Oscar race for Best Visual Effects shapes up as a showdown between “First Man” and “Avengers: Infinity War” — reshaping in-camera VFX for Nasa’s trip to the moon versus Marvel’s brilliant CG Thanos.

On “Avengers: Infinity War,” Digital Domain created Thanos in parallel with Weta Digital. The success of both Thanos characters was a result of conveying every nuance of Brolin’s onset performance via Dd’s new high-res facial capture system, which captured Brolin’s facial data and then added the actor’s low-res onset performance. Through analysis and fine-tuning, the animators accurately joined Brolin with Thanos, which could yield Marvel its first VFX Oscar. The level of photo-real performance capture definitely raises the bar for a humanoid.

‘Welcome To Marwen’ Trailer: Probably The Most Feel-Good Film About Being Brutally Beaten By Neo-Nazis Ever Made

The marketing campaign for Steve Carell and director Robert Zemeckis’ new film “Welcome to Marwen” has been a bit confusing, to say the least. The first trailer, released back in June, failed to garner much interest as it turned a true story about a man being beaten within an inch of his life by a group of neo-Nazis into some sort of light-hearted romp with toys.
